Fire Dept Valentine's Day Pancake Breakfast
When:The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept will host its yearly Valentine’s Pancake Breakfast on Sunday Feb 11th at department headquarters 25 Quassuk Rd from 7am to 11am. Prices for the 43rd annual event remain unchanged at $8 for adults or $6 for seniors and children. The traditional menu features juice, coffee or tea, stacks of pancakes with or without berries, and crisp bacon or sausage. “It’s a traditional town event for the entire family,” says Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan. “Lots of people came as kids and now they bring their own sweethearts.”
For the first time, firefighters from both the Orenaug and Hotchkissville companies will cook, serve, and clean. In the past, the breakfast was a Hotchkissville-sponsored event. “It’s just a matter of tradition giving way to efficiency,” explains one officer. “After all we conduct firefighting and rescue as one department, so why not community parties too.”
Last year, the department responded to emergency call-outs at the rate of nearly one a day. The 2023 statistics released this week by Chief Morgan noted 338 calls in the calendar year. Of these, thirteen were fires and 109 were motor vehicle accidents. Another 42 auto accidents involved spills of dangerous liquids such as gasoline or battery acid. There were 131 responses to automated alarms or calls that concluded with no fire or other emergency situation, two weather-related runs such as flooded cellars, and a handful of miscellaneous events. “We’re all neighbors helping each other,” Chief Morgan concluded.
