Woman's Club - Speaker: Fire Chief Janet Morgan

When:

Woman’s Club of Woodbury November Meeting
November 7, 2022

The November regular business meeting of the Woman's Club of Woodbury will take place Monday, November 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Emergency Services Building (Orenaug Firehouse) 25 Quassuk Road in Woodbury. The members-only meeting will be followed by our speaker, Janet Morgan, chief of the Woodbury Fire Department. Her talk, entitled “Putting the Wet Stuff on the Red Stuff,” is open to the public. The program begins at 12:30; please call 203-263-3623 for reservations.

Janet Morgan joined the fire department in 1980, following in the footsteps of her father. Her home station was her neighborhood, Hotchkissville. Throughout the intervening years, private sector employers supported her absence when duty called and she was able to continue to volunteer in the fire department and train on every aspect of the fire service.

During her time in the department, she served as the Cpt. Drill Master, Captain of Hotchkissville Station, Deputy Chief and, eventually in 2004, became the Chief.  During this time, she trained to be a Deputy Fire Marshal under Fire Marshal Richard Rooney and the year she became Chief she was also appointed Fire Marshal when he retired.  She was the first person in the department to hold both positions.

Elections for Chief are held every two years and Ms. Morgan feels very lucky to have been reelected.  She has juggled her professional career with the loving support of her husband,

two daughters and two grandchildren.  It has not always been easy – but each day brings

new challenges that are faced head on in order to keep moving forward.  One never knows when one will be called upon to do what the community needs, but, Janet Morgan has always said that even on the worst days, she has the best job in town!

Woman’s Club members are also now preparing for the Annual Christmas House Tour scheduled to take place this year on December 10th.  Our first since 2019, due to Covid concerns! Ticket sales will begin soon. For more information contact Claudette 203-419-5208. Donations for the club’s charitable civic projects are appreciated. Prospective Members are always welcome!
