Substance Use Disorders and Narcan Education - Woman's Club of Woodbury
When:The Woman’s Club of Woodbury proudly announces their April 4th Program which is open to the Public:
Topic: Substance Use Disorders and Narcan Education presented by the City of Waterbury Health Department. The speaker will cover the City of Waterbury’s success with its program, help us identify ‘Substance Use Disorders’, discuss the next steps for the addict and his/her family upon successful overdose treatment, tell us why Narcan is important, and address concerns that it could adversely affect a person in a non-overdose situation.
Given that currently the public supply of Narcan is at a low point, a citizen could cite the CT ‘Good Samaritan’ law as a reason to order a prescription through their own health insurance to have a two-dose supply of Narcan on hand. The charge would be at no or co-pay cost in most cases.
Speaker:
Cameron Breen is an ORT (Overdose Response Technician) with the City of Waterbury Health Dept.
Speaker Bio: Cameron joined the City of Waterbury Health Dept. as an ORT in July 2020 shortly before the initial launch of the City’s Overdose Response Program in August of that year. He acts as a civilian member of the Waterbury Police Dept. assisting both the Police and Fire Departments in real life overdose situations and with follow-up referrals for counseling and treatment. He brings to the job five years experience as a recovering addict, a perspective that can help when shared with those in crisis. He is currently working toward completion of his Drug and Alcohol Addiction Certification as an Addiction Counselor through the program at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
