Oil Tank Removal On Line Permit
Home improvement contractors conducting underground storage tank (UST) removal must comply with the following guidelines as set forth by the Department Of Consumer Protection:
- 1.) Contractors must provide evidence of liability insurance coverage of one million dollars ($1,000,000) and
- 2.) show evidence of completion of a 40-hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operations (HAZOPER) course and
- 3.) eight (8) hours of health and safety training -- 29 CFR 1910.120(e), and
- 4.)passage of the International Code Council Decommissioning Exam.
(Bond requirements set forth in Public Act 04-21 were eliminated in Public Act 09-122.)
After the Building Official has approved the permit you will need to contact the Fire Marshal's Office to schedule an inspection of the tank and tank grave on the day of the pull. This office requests 48 hours notice. The Fire Marshal or Deputy shall inspect the tank as it is removed from the ground. They will also view the tank grave and watch the soil sample being taken. Pictures of the event may also be taken.
All tanks shall be removed according to the tank removal requirements of NFPA 30.
All lab results shall be forwarded to this office within 7 days.
