Under the direction of the Animal Control Officer, the Assistant Animal Control Officer is accountable for enforcing all laws and regulations regarding the control and impoundment of domestic, companion, and exotic animals, as well as enforcement of animal cruelty laws.  Performs field and office work and maintains the Town’s Animal Shelter.

 

This position has a minimum education requirement of a High School degree (or equivalent). Must have a State of Connecticut Animal Control Officer Certificate or be willing to obtain certification within one year. Must be physically capable of capturing, controlling, and lifting large animals and must have the ability to deal with aggressive dogs and other animals as necessary. Must be knowledgeable about first aid for animals or the like. Must have excellent oral and written interpersonal skills and maintain a valid State of Connecticut driver’s license. Must pass a background check.

 

The Assistant ACO work schedule consists of on-call coverage for weekends, holidays, and scheduled leave time of the full-time Animal Control Officer. The pay rate is $19.57 per hour.  Minimum 2-hour on-call pay for each day scheduled.  Includes use of Town vehicle when on-call.
