Town Historian
Susan J.Shepard
The appointment of a Town Historian in Connecticut is authorized by state statute CGS7-148(5)(0) passed in 1987 with the late Harlan Griswold of Woodbury, long-time member of the Connecticut Historical Commission, speaking in favor of the bill in the public hearing along with Dr.C.Bickford of the Connecticut Historical Society. Appointed by the Board of Selectmen, the Town Historian is a fully voluntary public official obliged to give unbiased service to all citizens and organizations and provide objective historical information which is as factual as resources allow. The office of Town Historian is also important because it helps stimulate interest, enthusiasm and activity at the local level for all aspects of the town history.
